PS5 Release Date Console Design

The upcoming PS5 release date was leaked a few days ago via secret internal e-mail. According to the e-mail, the next PlayStation 5 is going to launch in February 2020 during a major Sony event. The PS5 is also expected to have beefed-up specs, an Ultra-HD Blu-ray optical drive and much more.

Recently, a design prototype for the PS5 was also leaked on the Internet. The image shows the PS5 design in the form of a V-shaped console complete with air vents, ports, and an optical drive. The V is supposed to signify the fifth generation of the PlayStation console.

What’s really interesting is that the leaked photo is of a PlayStation 5 dev-kit. This news was confirmed by Michael Stott, who is a senior artist at Codemasters. According to him, the leaked image of the PlayStation 5 is a developer kit that he has in his office.

PS5 Release Date PS5 Dev Kit

Sony hands out these dev-kits to developers in order to give them a head start in making games. The official PS5 release is yet to be confirmed, however, Sony is making sure that PS5 has enough games available when it finally launches.

The PS5 also has an equally powerful competitor from Microsoft known as Xbox Scarlett. It will be the successor to the current line of Microsoft gaming consoles which include the Xbox One S and Xbox One X.

The PlayStation 5 will replace the PS4 and its slightly more powerful version of the PS4 Pro as well. Several industry experts have already weighed in on how powerful the upcoming PlayStation 5 is.

Recently, video game developer Toshihiro Nagoshi praised the performance of the upcoming PS5. According to him, “The processing power of PlayStation 5 is incredible.” Further elaborating on the power of Sony’s upcoming console, the game developer said, “If you would pour its power into graphics, it’ll be the best that we’ve yet to see.”

The developer was talking about the dev kit instead of the actual PS5 gaming console. The dev kits or developer kits are usually more powerful than the actual console which gives the game makers the ability to test certain features of the game. So it could be the case that the upcoming PS5 might be different from what developers are claiming right now.

PlayStation 5 Specs

Over the past few weeks, a lot of information regarding the PlayStation 5 has been revealed. Using that information, we have a good idea about the specs of the PS5.

PlayStation 5 CPU

PS5 Release Date PS5 Patent

We know for a fact that the PlayStation 5 will be powered by a custom AMD Ryzen based CPU. The latest 7 nm Ryzen processors are based on the Zen 2 architecture. The PlayStation 5 Zen 2 CPU will be custom made, however, it will have some of the core features of the new AMD processors. These features include better IPC ratings, higher clock speeds, and bigger cache memory.

The PlayStation 5 CPU will likely be an 8-core 16 thread CPU running at 3.2Ghz. The clock speed is only a prediction at this point but the core count is more or less confirmed.

The CPU’s were quite a bottleneck in the performance of last-gen consoles including the Xbox One S and PS4. However, with the Zen 2 Ryzen processors, it will be a great boon for PlayStation 5 gaming performance.

PlayStation 5 GPU

PS5 Release Date PS5 Backward Compatibility

Speaking of the PlayStation 5 GPU, it’d be based on the AMD Navi graphics that is based on the RDNA architecture. Sony has had a huge involvement in the production of Navi graphics cards, and as a result, the GPU of the PS4 and PS5 have some basic similarities.

What Is an Instruction Set?
It is a group of machine codes that can be recognized and executed by a processor

For example, the instruction set used in the PS4 GPU is called the GCN or Graphics Core Next; this instruction set is quite similar to the RDNA. It makes it easy for Sony to make the PS5 backward compatible with PS4 games.

Furthermore, according to a recent leak, the upcoming PS5 GPU will be capable of 9.2 Teraflops of graphical performance on the RDNA architecture and 14 Teraflops on the GCN architecture. This means that the PlayStation 5 GPU will be as powerful as the Nvidia RTX 2080, which is currently capable of 12.1 Teraflops of performance.

The current most powerful console, the Microsoft Xbox One X, has 6 teraflops of graphical performance and is able to run several first-party titles at 4k 60FPS. Hence, it’d be safe to assume that the upcoming PS5 will hit those numbers without any issue. The PlayStation 5 GPU will be clocked in at 2Ghz according to the leak, which is again faster than the GPU clock speed of the Xbox One X at 1.17Ghz.

With a powerful GPU, the PlayStation 5 will be able to play all the games at a native 4k resolution running at 60FPS. It’d be a huge deal for the gamers because it was recently revealed during a test conducted by the digital foundry that the higher the FPS, the better a player can perform in a game.

Several people are also claiming that the PS5 will be capable of playing games in 8k resolution. This claim can be easily put to rest because the current most powerful graphics card on the market, the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti, isn’t able to run games at 8k resolution. The PS5 can achieve upscaled 8k resolution but there is no chance that it will be able to play games in native 8k.

Another possibility is that the PS5 will be powerful enough to play 8K videos. However, there aren’t many 8K TVs in the market at the moment.

PlayStation 5 SSD Storage

PS5 Release Date PS5 SSD

The PlayStation 5 will also have a huge SSD to manage all its 4k game textures and assets. On average, the 4k files add up to 15-20GB over the base installed game file. For example, the base install size of Halo 5 is 98.26GB and downloading the 4k patch adds an additional 15.10GB.

The PlayStation 5 will come with an SSD to load the assets faster and enhance the gameplay experience. Only a few months ago, Sony showcased the loading time of the PS5 during an official developer presentation. The PS5 was able to load the latest Spiderman game in less than a second while the PS4 Pro took around 8 seconds to load the same.

Recently, officials from Crytek Game Studios revered the performance of the SSD in the upcoming PlayStation 5. The studio said that the faster SSDs will open up a lot of design possibilities.

PlayStation 5 Memory

PS5 Release Date PS5 Design

The PlayStation 5 RAM will be a high bandwidth memory that won’t be shared with the VRAM. Currently, 8GB of GDDR5 memory is shared as the RAM and as the VRAM. This creates a bottleneck while buffering 4k textures. However, the upcoming PlayStation 5 will have a dedicated amount of RAM separated from the VRAM.

During an interview with Gaming Bolt, Marc-André Jutras, technical director at Cradle Games, said that it is totally possible that we might see 8GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM in the PlayStation 5.

PlayStation 5 Price

There is no clear prediction on the PlayStation 5 cost as of yet. However, through a number of sources, we can predict what the PlayStation 5 price will be at the time of launch.

The price for the PlayStation 5 will be around $500-$600 at the time of the launch. These prices are subject to fluctuations due to the ongoing US-China trade war, which has disrupted the supply chain of PS4 and Xbox One gaming consoles.

The PS5 price will be finalized only when its production will begin a few months before the console’s worldwide launch. Until then, we can expect to empty our pockets from anywhere between $500 and $700, depending upon the situation.

We can expect Sony to reveal the price of their upcoming console during the official PS5 release date event.

PlayStation 5 Release Date

There are two potential PS5 release dates — February 2020 and December 2020. The gaming consoles are usually released during the holiday season because it maximizes the sales. However, according to a recent e-mail, the PlayStation 5 will be revealed during a major sony event which is due in February next year.

The leaked PS5 release date of Feb 2020, if it’s official, will likely be a major event. This PS5 release date came from 4chan, so take it with a grain of salt.

PlayStation 5 Confirmed Games

A lot of PlayStation 5 games have been confirmed at this point. As mentioned earlier, the PlayStation 5 will also have backward compatibility, meaning every PS4 game launched till date will be playable on PlayStation 5.

Sony is going to make sure that there are a good number of games to showcase during the official reveal of the PS5 release date. Thus, all of us can expect 10-15 titles, including several first-party ones to be available at the launch of PS5.

Regardless, here are all the PlayStation 5 confirmed games that will launch in the near future:

PlayStation 5 confirmed games

Ghost Of Tsushima

The upcoming action-adventure video game has been developed by Sucker Punch productions and it will launch for both the PS4 and the PS5. The game was announced way back in 2017 and since then there have been no updates on the title. Thus, it is being speculated that the Ghost of Tsushima will launch of both the PS4 and the PS5. There is no release date for the Ghost of Tsushima on PS4.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light is a title which has been confirmed for the PS4 and the PS5. It is the sequel to the hit zombie action-RPG series and takes every bit of gameplay up a notch. Dying Light 2 is being developed by Techland studios and will feature multiple endings. The game’s launch also sits well with the leaked PS5 release date which is Spring 2020.

Last of Us Part II

The Last of Us Part II 2 won’t be a PS5 exclusive because it will likely launch on PS4 on May 20, 2020. It is expected that Sony will release the game for the PS5 as well sometime in the future because it did the same with the Last of Us Part I.

GTA 6

The next Grand Theft Auto game has been confirmed for the next generation of consoles, including the PS5 and the Xbox Scarlett. Grand Theft Auto 6 or GTA 6 will take us all the way back to 1970s. It will be the biggest GTA game of all time, according to sources. It is also being speculated that Rockstar studios have already begun working on their next big title as they were spotted removing the posters of Red Dead Redemption II from their office building.

Horizon Zero Dawn 2

This game was confirmed by one of the voice-actor who plays Tatai in the Horizon Zero Dawn Frozen Wilds DLC. According to the actor, the sequel of the Horizon Zero Dawn is coming and it’ll be really amazing. Another source confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is being pushed for a PS5 release, while a sequel to the game is coming to PS4 in 2021. The title will most likely be announced alongside the PS5 release date reveal.

God Of War 2

Not to be confused with the God of War II which was released on PS2 more than 10 years ago. The God of War 2 will be the sequel to the 2018 God of War reboot, which brought in a massive success for Sony. Thus, naturally, Sony would want to make a sequel to the hit series. According to some job postings spotted by Game Radar, the staff for making God of War 2 are being hired and the game will likely launch in 2021 on PS5.

Elder Scrolls 6

The sequel to the juggernaut, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, will definitely launch on PS5. I say this with absolute certainty and by keeping in mind Skyrim’s record of launching on every platform available in the market. The Elder Scrolls 6 has been confirmed by Bethesda and it will launch in early 2020 or 2021.

Starfield

Starfield is a brand new IP from Bethesda and it will launch on PS5. The new game was announced back in E3 2018 and since then has remained more or less a mystery. Starfield will make use of next-gen console hardware to develop massive procedurally generated worlds. The game has been in development for almost 10 years and it will be one of the biggest games on PS5.

Besides these titles, annual releases like FIFA, Call of Duty Black Ops, NBA, etc., will also make an appearance on the upcoming PS5.

One Sony exclusive title, Death Stranding, was de-listed from the PS4 exclusive list a few days ago, which gave rise to a number of speculations. However, after a few days, the game was again labeled as a PS4 exclusive.
