PUBG PS4 Xbox One Crossplatform play

Cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One has just been announced for the popular battle royale game PUBG: PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds. Gamers on both platforms are really excited, to say the least. Being a PS4 player myself, I can’t wait to play with Xbox One players. A total of 100 players from both consoles will be able to play together on the same map.

The crossplay servers will start in late September, while the rest of the PUBG servers will get a new update in early October. The cross-platform option for PUBG is limited to PS4 and Xbox One only — meaning no PC players will be able to play along with the console players. According to the official report, PUBG will also feature a shorter time during matchmaking due to increased cross-platform play.

The popularity of PUBG saw a decline in recent months when free battle royale shooters like Apex Legends and Fortnite took over the market.

However, PUBG and its newer version of PUBG Lite saw a tremendous increase in the smartphone gaming category as millions of players across India and China played the game religiously. The game’s parent company, Tencent also made an equally huge profit this year to showcase that they are still a dominant force.

The cross-platform play on PS4 and Xbox One is part of the Season 4 update of PUBG that focuses on rebalancing gameplay and improving the map a little bit. The new update will also bring a brand new season pass along with it.

During the matchmaking, there will be an icon present next to the player’s name indicating the console they’re playing on. The match macking will choose a bunch of players from both the PS4 and the Xbox One.

Another new change is the faster updates on consoles. From now on, there will only be a two-week difference between the updates on the PUBG PC version and the console version. Previously, the updates arrived earlier on the PC version.

The objective of the cross-play feature is to increase the shrinking player base of PUBG on consoles. Currently, Fortnite is the most popular free Battle Royale game available on PS4 and Xbox One.

Both platforms were dominated by Apex Legends a few months ago, however, Fortnite took over the lead again with new updates and the recently held Fortnite World Cup.

PUBG isn’t the first game to enable cross-platform play between PS4 and Xbox One and it won’t be the last. So here’s a list of all the games that support PS4 and Xbox One:

Cross-platform Game On PS4 And Xbox One

1. Fortnite

The massive hit game from EPIC Games is one of the most popular games on PS4 and Xbox One that features cross-platform play. The game also enables cross-play across Nintendo Switch, Mobile and PC. Fortnite is a worldwide phenomenon and it seems to be growing every minute. The game is currently in its 10th season and features an ultra-refined Battle Royale gameplay. If you’re not a fan of Classic Battle Royale then there are plenty of other modes in the game as well. Fortnite is available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One online stores for free.

2. Dauntless

The recently launched monster hunter-styled RPG game Dauntless is available for cross-play on PS4 and Xbox One. The game also enabled cross-play on PC as well. Dauntless features all the basic mechanics of the recently launched Monster Hunter: World. The only difference is that it’s free-to-play and is more approachable to newer players who haven’t yet experienced a monster hunter game.

3. Rocket League

Rocket League is one of the highest-rated sports games available at any online gaming store. It features cross-play between PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One. The game describes itself as ‘vehicular soccer gameplay’ and it is exactly that. The objective of the game is to play football using your car and the ball you play with is a giant one. Without spoiling anything else I want to say that Rocket League is a must-try cross-play game available on PS4 and Xbox One.

4. Aragami

Aragami is a stealth action game that is available for cross-play on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch. It features an immersive story, a single-player campaign and an online co-op play as well. Aragami features satisfying stealth combat coupled with several supernatural abilities that you unlock along the way. You’ll need PS Plus and Xbox Games with Gold subscription to experience the online co-op game as usual.

5. War Thunder

War Thunder is a flying action simulator game that is available for cross-play on PS4 and Xbox One. The game puts you in the shoes of historic pilots who navigate across the battlefield performing dog fights, providing air support, etc. The game also features customization options and allows you to make changes to your fighter-plane as you progress in the game.

War Thunder offers quite a deep level of customization options as it lets players import external assets into the game, including your own photos. Meaning you can have a vintage fighter plane flying around with your selfie stretched on top of it. Download the game just for this feature.

6. Trailblazers

Trailblazers is a cross-platform racing game with a unique twist. The objective of this game is to paint the road as you race and then boost your teammate’s paint to go faster. It is a unique concept that makes the Trailblazers stand tall among the crowd of generic racing games.

The game involves several mechanics to make the gameplay challenging and rewarding. It does suffer from minor glitches but that was way back when it was released. Since then the game has been patched and fixed several times over and it now offers a smooth experience on PS4 and Xbox One.

7. Super Dungeon Bros

Super Dungeon Bros is a hack and slash dungeon crawler with simple and fun gameplay. The game supports cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One. It features procedurally generated dungeons, tons of enemies and simple-to-learn combat system. This game can be enjoyed with friends for hours. With cross-play enabled, there’s no problem in finding potential teammates to play this game with.

8. Call of Duty Modern Warfare

The upcoming reboot of the famous Call of Duty Modern Warfare series will be a cross-platform game for the Xbox One and PS4. It was announced officially a few weeks ago and since then fans have been pretty excited about the game.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare takes the game back to its roots by removing mechanics like sliding, wall running, etc. and featuring a more simple yet immersive combat experience. The Modern Warfare reboot also uses a brand new game engine so expect a lot of improvements both visually and gameplay-wise when the game launches on 25th October 2019.

Bonus cross-play titles on PS4 and Xbox One are:

  • Hover
  • Mantis Burn Racing
  • Overload
  • Spacelords
  • Siegecraft Commander

Here’s to hoping that the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Scarlett feature every game as a cross-platform title so we can finally put an end to the console wars.
