Today we have Hyundai i10 Nios Vs Maruti Swift on board. It is surely a tough call to choose between the two hatchback cars. Both cars have a huge market share and are available in both petrol and diesel variants. However, Hyundai grand i10 Nios has just launched a CNG variant.
Also at Auto Expo 2020, Hyundai unveiled the 1.0L Turbocharged petrol variant of the car, adding a power-packed performance model to its range.
Hyundai i10 Nios Vs Maruti Swift
Hyundai i10 Nios and Maruti Swift are powered by a BS6 compliant 1.2L Kappa engine and 1.2L VVT engine, respectively. Apart from the name assigned, both the engines have the same configuration. It can produce a power of 82hp with a peak torque of 114Nm.
However, the 1.0L Turbo GDi Petrol engine of Hyundai i10 has more to offer in performance. Since it is a turbocharged engine, it could make a maximum of 100hp and a peak torque of 172Nm.
On the other hand, we also have a CNG variant available in i10 Nios, whereas we don’t have these two options in Maruti Swift. A Hybrid Swift variant is expected to arrive soon in the market, but the launch date is yet to be announced by the company.
As I said above, both cars belong to the same category and are perfect rivals. Therefore, as seen above in the petrol variant and the diesel variant, the figures remain the same.
The 1.2L U2 CRDi engine powers Hyundai i10 Nios, whereas the 1.3L DDiS engine powers Maruti Swift. Although there is a slight variation in displacement, both the engines could make 74Hp and a peak torque of 190Nm. However, only Hyundai provides a BS6 compliant diesel engine.
The Grand i10 Nios has a mileage of around 20kmpl for the petrol variant and around 26.2kmpl for diesel. The CNG variant is expected to be nearly 28-30kmpl.
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki Swift has a mileage of 21.21kmpl for Petrol and 28.40kmpl for diesel variants, as claimed by the company. However, its diesel variant works as per BS4 norms.
We have dual airbags, ABS(Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD(Electronic Brake Distribution), and Reverse Parking Sensor in both Hyundai i10 Nios and Maruti Swift. But additionally, Maruti Swift provides an Isofix with the child restraint system for enhancing child safety.
The price range for the Hyundai i10 Nios starts from Rs 5.04 lakh to Rs 8.04 lakh (ex-showroom). Whereas its counterpart, Maruti Swift pricing starts at Rs 5.19 to 8.84 Rs (ex-showroom). The prices may vary depending on the different cities.
Looking at the specifications, even the experts will find it challenging to pick one when it comes to Hyundai i10 Nios Vs. Maruti Swift. However, there are more options for Hyundai i10 Nios considering the new Turbo and CNG variant of the car. And with the new design improvements in i10 Nios, it has a competitive edge.
Overall I would say that for now, it looks like i10 Nios has a better chance to thrive in the market.
