Windows 10 Increases MacBook Air Brightness By 32%, Wait What?
Apple has added many useful features in the MacBook Air 2020, which include bumping the base storage to 256GB. However, you might have observed an unexpected improvement in the display department.
The MacBook Air 2020 is around 32% brighter when running Windows 10 in Bootcamp. The difference was spotted by NotebookCheck.net while performing benchmark tests on the recently updated machine.
According to the website, the maximum brightness when running macOS was 415 nits whereas it was 547 nits in the case of Windows 10. For reference, Apple advertises the maximum brightness value as 400 nits for MacBook Air. It packs a 13.3-inch Retina display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.
However, a slight degradation was observed in the color contrast and color accuracy in the case of Windows 10, although, it wouldn’t be noticeable to the naked eye. They tried to increase the brightness further by putting a flashlight in front of the ambient light sensor but didn’t achieve any success.
Speaking of probable reasons, NotebookCheck says that Apple might have chosen 400 nits as a standard value because all display panels don’t max out at the same brightness level. Or maybe the company kept it lower to keep up with the color accuracy.
On the other hand, it could also be a marketing move to put it’s costlier sibling MacBook Pro 13 in a superior position. That’s because a difference in the brightness levels is outrightly visible to the user.
The Retina display panels on Mac computer are one of the best in class but a revelation like this would make users doubt the capabilities of macOS.
Anyway, this considerable difference in the brightness levels makes people curious, but only Apple would be able to give a proper explanation. Also, we should wait for more such claims to surface online.
