ZEE5 To Roll Out An Indian TikTok Alternative By Mid-July
One of the most famous OTT platforms in India, ZEE5, has announced that it will soon roll out a TikTok alternative.
The ZEE5’s TikTok alternative is currently in the beta stage and will hit the Google Play store in the first half of July.
The company has explicitly said that the app will look after the safety and security of user data. ZEE5 also cleared it out that the app will be a standalone project.
ZEE5, as of now, holds a user base of more than 150 million people. This will undoubtedly play a significant role in attracting people to its new app initially.

The app comes at a time when large numbers of Indians are sharing anti-China sentiments. The country’s intelligence authorities recently asked citizens to boycott several prominent Chinese apps, citing their ‘shady’ data collection activities. TikTok was also named on the list.
As of now, TikTok has a user base of more than 100 million in India. But given the circumstances, Zee5’s new app will be a big threat to TikTok, and other similar apps like Vigo video, Kwai, Helo, and a few more.
But Zee5 is not the only one trying to leverage anti-Tiktok sentiment. Recently, another Android app called Mitron was in the limelight. The app portrayed itself as an Indian alternative to TikTok, which gave it enough push to reach millions of users.
Later on, it was found out that the app was a rebranded version of a Pakistani app named Tictic. Mitron was also removed from the Google Play Store for violating its policies but later returned to the app market.
