What is The Godfather Part II about?

After the events of the first film, Michael Corleone truly became the leader of the family. He truly became a person worthy of becoming the head of the family, thanks to his ruthless demeanor towards anyone who even thought of betraying the family. On top of that, Michael is also focusing on expanding the family by acquiring hotels, casinos, and whatnot in the 1950s.

While on the one hand, we see the rise of the Corleone family, parallelly, the film also shows the life of a young Vito Corleone, played by Robert De Niro. Vito’s struggles from seeing his family murdered to becoming a petty criminal to finally becoming the “don” in the 1920s.

All things considered, the plot of the movie perfectly manages to handle the two parallel stories. As a result, the film is essentially both a prequel and sequel to the original The Godfather.
