mark-zuckerberg-charity-99-all-moneyShort Bytes: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he’ll donate 99% of his family money during his life. Welcoming their newly-born daughter, they wrote: “We are committed to doing our small part to help create this world for all children.”

Few days ago, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s wife Dr. Priscilla Chan gave birth to the couple’s first child. The couple named their daughter Max and shared the news on Facebook on Tuesday. “Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children,” they said in their Facebook letter to Max.

In the letter, the couple mentioned that they have pledged to donate 99% of their Facebook stock during their lives. At current prices, Mark’s shares in the company are roughly worth $45 billion.

Notably, just one day ago, Zuckerberg and Bill Gates launched a clean energy initiative along with other tech billionaires.

A few weeks before Max’s birth, Priscilla and Mark took a morning to reflect and record their hopes for their daughter and all children of her generation.

Admiring their decision, on Mark’s Facebook post, Melinda Gates commented:

As for your decision to give back so generously, and to deepen your commitment now, the first word that comes to mind is: Wow. The example you’re setting today is an inspiration to us and the world. We can be confident of this: Max and every child born today will grow up in a world that is better than the one we know now. As you say, “seeds planted now will grow.” Your work will bear fruit for many decades to come.
