Linux Mint 18 ‘Sarah’ Edition is based on the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS package.
This brand new Mint KDE release features the KDE Plasma 5.6 desktop environment and the KDE Applications 15.12.3 software suite.
Linux Mint 18 ‘Sarah’ KDE Edition ships with Mozilla Firefox as default web browser and LibreOffice as the default office suite. The Linux distro also features a wide range of popular KDE apps like Kontact, Dolphin, Gwenview, KMail, digiKam, KTorrent, Skanlite, Konversation, K3b, Konsole, Amarok, Ark, Kate, Okular, and Dragon Player.
Changes in update manager and other system improvements
Talking about the changes in update manager, there are many visual and under the hood changes, including the use of stack widgets, subtle animations, and better support for alternative themes.
In Linux Mint 18 ‘Sarah’, apart from all the previously supported features, apt also supports the Debian syntax. Also, apt install and apt remove now show progress.
In this release, exFAT file systems are supported out of the box and Btrfs support is back and installed by default.
The KDE Edition also gets the advantage of the Linux Mint 18’s improved HiDPI support. Just like other editions, in KDE, most of the Mint apps and Firefox are now migrated to GTK3.
