Instagram Hacked? — API Bug Leaks Personal Information Of High Profile Users

instagram bug hacked
Earlier this week, Variety reported that Instagram account of actress and singer Selena Gomez, the world’s most followed person on the photo-based social network, was hacked. The hackers also posted NSFW pictures of her ex-boyfriend and pop star Justin Bieber via her account. Eventually, the account was restored.

Now, the Facebook-owned service has revealed that the hackers have exploited a bug related to an Instagram API and accessed the email address and phone number of high-profile users. The number of the affected users hasn’t been revealed.

It should be noted that other information, including passwords, hasn’t been revealed.

In a statement, Instagram said that they’ve notified their verified account holders. They further added that people must be vigilant about their security and beware of suspicious activities.

It would be safe to assume that the bug affected all Instagram users but the high-profile users turned out to be obvious targets. This Instagram bug has now been fixed.

We advise Fossbytes users to use a strong password and an extra layer of security like two-factor authentication. Make sure to report the unrecognized and suspicious calls, emails, and texts at the earlier.
