facebook-1-billion-mark-zuckerbergShort Bytes: For the first time in Facebook’s history, this Monday, 1 billion people used Facebook on a single day. The social networking website founder Mark Zuckerberg informed the world, in a Facebook post of course. The company reached this milestone on Monday.

In his Facebook post, Mark Zuckerberg wrote: “On [Monday, August 24], 1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family.” He went on to call himself proud of the global Facebook community as 1 billion people used Facebook on a single day. “Our community stands for giving every person a voice, for promoting understanding, and for including everyone in the opportunities of our modern world,” he added.

This milestone means that 1 in every 7 people on Earth logged on in a single day on Facebook. “When we talk about our financials, we use average numbers, but this is different. This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it’s just the beginning of connecting the whole world,” Zuckerberg said.

Right now, Facebook has about 1.5 billion users who log in at least once a month. Talking about milestones, Facebook gained its billionth user in October 2012.

In his post on Thursday, Zuckerberg also said: “A more open and connected world is a better world. It brings stronger relationships with those you love, a stronger economy with more opportunities, and a stronger society that reflects all of our values.” He added,” Thank you for being part of our community and for everything you’ve done to help us reach this milestone. I’m looking forward to seeing what we accomplish together.”

Facebook also made a small video to celebrate this milestone. We hope you enjoy.
