Windows 10 May 2020 Update Known Issues

The Windows 10 May 2020 Update has just started rolling out to the users. Microsoft said the rollout will happen in a phased manner, and users running version 1909 and 1903 would receive the update first.

Now, Windows 10 2004 comes with many new features that might of great help but it can’t be ignored that problems still exist. That’s why Microsoft has listed down the known issues in May 2020 Update on a support page published recently.

Microsoft warns these issues might lead to various consequences, such as the blue screen of death, or the system might fail to restart after updating. Of course, not all PCs are affected by them.

For instance, Windows 10 PCs running some versions of Realtek drivers might face problems when connecting to more than one Bluetooth device.

Enabling the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) on monitors connected to an integrated Intel GPU adapter may not work as expected, especially for games using DirectX 9.

Users might also face problems with older Nvidia GPU drivers (below 358.0), and mouse input may not work with apps and games using GameInput Redistributable.

Furthermore, Windows 10 PCs with ‘Always On, Always Connected’ network adapters might face issues as well. To name a few, Microsoft Surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3 are among the affected ones.

Speaking of BSODs, plugging or unplugging the Thunderbolt dock on some devices with “certain settings” might lead to a STOP error. According to Microsoft, affected devices have Kernel DMA Protection enabled and Windows Hypervisor Platform disabled.

In addition to the issues and bugs, Redmond has also detailed the possible mitigations that users can apply. For example, users should look for updated Nvidia GPU drivers to fix compatibility issues.

Currently, the status of all the issues is marked as “Investigating” and fixes would arrive in future cumulative updates. However, in some cases, Microsoft has blocked the 20H1 update for affected machines, and it’s recommended not to manually update your system to Windows 10 version 2004 if it’s affected by any of the known issues.
