Now You Can Run Windows 7/10 In The Cloud With “Windows Virtual Desktop”
Microsoft has made it easier for developers and interested users to run the Windows operating system in the cloud with the help of a new solution named Windows Virtual Desktop. Along with Windows 10, this service also supports Windows 7, which is still a big deal in the enterprise environment.
With this service, the company aims to provide the “best Virtualized Windows and Office experience” on Azure. This development is also big news for other third-party tools that offered similar solutions.
According to Microsoft, this is the first cloud-based service that can offer a multi-user Windows 10 experience. As a result, one can deploy and further scale Windows on Azure in minutes. The company’s offering also includes free Windows 7 Extended Security Updates.
The service provides you an option to virtualize desktop as well as individual apps. This means that you don’t have to deal with the complete OS in case you wish to use a particular application.
Talking about the availability, Windows Virtual Desktop is being offered to Windows 10 Education and Windows 10 Enterprise customers. After signing up for the service, which will be released as a preview later this year, you can use an Azure subscription to get started right away.
