There has been speculation regarding the price of MG Gloster ever since MG Motor revealed it at the Auto Expo 2020. The Toyota Fortuner Rival will be priced at around Rs 50 lakh. The MG SUV is likely to launch at Diwali this year.
Earlier, it was expected that the SUV from MG would be priced around Rs 24 to 31 lakh (ex-showroom).
However, in a recent interview, Rajeev Chaba the President and Managing Director at MG Motor India, stated that the company is trying to bring an Rs 80-90 lakh product in the range of Rs 50 lakh.
Furthermore, he said in an interview that the company would not be focusing on the production volume for this product. Instead, it would try to reinforce the brand’s value, leadership in technology, and market dominance in the future.
Toyota Fortuner Rival MG Gloster Engine And Specs
In China, the SUV is already being sold as Maxus D90, and most likely, MG Gloster will be powered by the same engines used in Maxus D90.
There will be both petrol and diesel engines. It will have a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine that can make around 220bhp and a peak torque of 360Nm. There will be both a 6-speed automatic as well as a 6-speed manual transmission.
Also, there will be a bi-turbo diesel engine that can create 212bhp and peak torque of 480Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Dimensions Of MG Gloster
The SUV is 5005 mm in length, 1932mm wide, and height of 1875mm. No doubt MG Gloster is humongous. It is even bigger than its rivals Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavor, Mahindra Alturas, and the like.
As per the specs of the Chinese model of the SUV, there is a considerable margin in price from the expected. Therefore, it might be possible that the SUV might have some high-end modifications even in engines too.
Launch Date And Price For MG Gloster
As per the sources, there will be two launches from the company this year, including MG Hector Plus, which will be a six-seater SUV from the company. MG Gloster will be the third product in a row from the British automaker.
In a recent interview, Mr. Rajeev Chaba said that MG plans to launch the SUV at Diwali this year so we can expect it to arrive near the first week of November 2020.
As the company claims, the Rs 80-90 lakh product will be launched under Rs 50 lakh. Some experts say that it might go against premium SUVs like Land Cruiser Prado along with its rivals like Ford Endeavor and Toyota Fortuner.
