Snapdragon 845 Announced: 25% Faster CPU, 30% Faster Graphics, 4K HDR Recording
The company says that the new Snapdragon is around 25% faster than its predecessors with the help of the octa-core Kryo 385 CPU clocked at 2.80GHz.
The chip, based on ARM Cortex, is built using Samsung’s 2nd Gen 10nm LPP fabrication process and supports LPDDR4X memory up to 8GB. Four out of eight cores are optimized for performance and the other four for efficiency. Adreno 630 GPU onboard improves the graphics performance by up to 30%.
For camera enthusiasts, Snapdragon 845-powered devices can shoot 4K HDR videos at 60 fps, while the frame rate for 1080p videos can go up to 240 fps. It can go up to 480 fps for slow motion 720 videos.
Talking about the on-device AI, Qualcomm’s Hexagon 685 DSP co-processor is present on Snapdragon 845 to handle AI user experiences for camera, voice, gaming, and other stuff. The co-processor would be able to leverage the Neural Networks API Google recently brought to Android 8.1 Oreo.
The wireless department includes their new X20 LTE modem which delivers around 1.2Gbps as the peak download speed. It’s 20% more speed than the X16 modem.
Snapdragon 845 cuts down on overall power consumption and also adds the benefit of Quick Charge 4+, which can juice up a battery from zero to around 50% in 15 minutes.
Further, there is support for WiFi 802.11 ac and the multi-gigabit WiFiad which works with the 60Ghz band. Support for Bluetooth 5 will enable Snapdragon 845-powered devices to stream audio to multiple devices simultaneously. It is also compatible with a number of satellite-based navigation systems, including GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS, SBAS.
We can expect the devices running Snapdragon 845 by Q1 2018.
