Netflix To Cancel Subscriptions of Inactive Accounts
Netflix, one of the most popular OTT platforms with a vast library of web series and movies, has made an announcement that it will start canceling inactive subscriptions soon. The company has decided to cancel all the subscriptions that have been inactive for the past year.
All the Netflix users who have not used the service for a long time will get in-app notifications and emails regarding the cancellation of their accounts. The accounts will be deleted automatically if the users fail to respond to the in-app notifications or the mails.
These inactive Netflix subscriptions are often referred to as Zombie accounts.
Netflix has a user base of more than 182 million subscribers as per the latest stats. The company’s decision will be beneficial for those accounts that are charged with monthly subscription despite no usage.
Eddy Wu, the Head of Product Innovation at Netflix, said that the accounts that are inactive on Netflix constitute less than 1% of the total accounts available on the platform. The number of inactive members on the platform is only a few hundred thousand.
However, if any customer wants to reactivate their account then Netflix has also made a provision for it. The company will allow the customers to reactivate their account in the next 10 months of cancellation so that they can retain their account details, favorites, and viewing preferences.
