But the iPhone 13 rumors and leaks have left us intrigued. We want to share all the information on the iPhone 13 which includes answering some top questions such as when is the iPhone 13 coming out, what does the iPhone 13 look like, what will be iPhone 13 camera upgrades, and more.
Without any further ado, let’s see what Apple has to offer based on the most recent iPhone 12 leaks and rumors.
iPhone 13 release date
Traditionally, Apple keeps the iPhone launch event in the month of September. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, a prominent Apple analyst, the iPhone 13 will follow the same time-frame.
Due to the COVID-19, Apple faced production delays. As a result, the iPhone 12/12 Pro and iPhone 12 Mini/ 12 Pro Max launch dates were shifted to October and November respectively.
When will the iphone 13 come out?
However, Kuo claims that iPhone 13 won’t face any production delays and will get back to the standard time frame. In other words, you can expect the iPhone 13 launch by the end of September 2021.
iPhone 13 features
Design
What does the iPhone 13 look like? iPhone 13S?
According to Mark Gurman’s Bloomberg report, the iPhone 13 lineup won’t have any major upgrades in the design area since there were many in 2020 iPhones. He says Apple engineers consider the iPhone 13 as an “S” upgrade: A nomenclature popular with older-gen iPhone models that always had only minor changes compared to the previous model.
However, the Japanese site Mac Otakara claims that the newer iPhone 13 would be slightly thicker than the iPhone 12; 0.26mm to be precise.
Smaller Notch
At this point, there have been several iPhone 13 leaks and rumors suggesting that the lineup will feature a smaller notch. A most recent leak suggests that the new notch will be a whooping 30% smaller than the one on the iPhone 12.
Mac Otakara recently shared images and videos of an alleged iPhone 13 Pro dummy unit. According to them, the iPhone 13 Pro notch will be 5.35 mm in height and 26.8mm in width. For your reference, the iPhone 12 Pro notch is 5.3 mm in height and 34.83 mm in width.
DigiTimes’s report of January explains, “the new design integrates Rx, Tx and flood illuminator into the same camera module…to enable smaller notch sizes.“
Ming Chi Kuo claims that smaller notch area with be one of the biggest hardware changes in iPhone 13.
No Lightning Port?
There have been rumors of Apple discarding the Lightning port starting with the iPhone 13. Gurman says people at Apple have discussed removing the port in favor of wireless charging.
For those who don’t know, Apple introduced MagSafe wireless charging on the iPhone 12 and removed the charging brick from the box.
If Apple is serious about removing the port, we think Apple will have to significantly improve the charging speed of the MagSafe wireless charger. Also, it would have to add the MagSafe charger in the box.
In a recent interview, Ming-Chi Kuo said that all 2021 iPhone 13 models will come with a Lightning connector, refuting his 2019 claim where he said Apple would offer a ‘completely wireless’ iPhone without a lightning connector in 2021.
Refined matte black
According to a video from EverythingApplePro that cites leaks from popular leakster Max Weinbach, the 2021 iPhone 13 Pro model will feature a refined matte black. The model will have a “slightly more grippy texturized back.” As per the video, it will be similar to the soft matte texture on the Pixel series.
Camera upgrades
The iPhone 13 leaks and rumors strongly indicate that Apple will copy paste iPhone 12 Pro Max camera upgrades to the entire iPhone 13 lineup. In other words, all 2021 iPhones will have 12 Pro Max’s new camera sensor, sensor-shift stabilization, and the LiDAR Scanner.
DigiTimes reports that the iPhone 13 will have an improved Ultra-Wide camera lens. Kuo has also backed up this claim. Kuo has also claimed that the iPhone 13 Pro Max wide-angle lens will have a much larger aperature than the other models in the lineup. The Pro models will also use a larger CMOS Image Sensor for the primary camera that will improve image resolution.
According to EverythingApplePro, the iPhone 13 might support Portrait Mode video where users will be able to change the depth of the field in a portrait video” Apple has been working on it for quite some time, according to the iPhone 13 leak.
There are also rumors about a small design change in the rear camera setup. Renders acquired by MySmartPrice depicts that the iPhone 13 dual camera system will have a diagonal arrangement of lenses instead of vertical as in the iPhone 12.
iPhone 13 Specifications
In-display Touch ID
One of the biggest features of the iPhone 13 could be the addition of an in-display fingerprint sensor. There have been multiple iPhone 13 rumors to back this up.
A WSJ report claims that the iPhone 13 will use an optical in-display sensor, however, Ming-Chi Kuo has said that the next-gen iPhone will feature an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader. Gurman has also said the in-display fingerprint sensor will be one of the key upgrades in 2021 iPhones. Analysts at Barclays Research have also confirmed this claim citing “extensive industry conversations.”
The iPhone 13 leaks also say that there are no plans to remove the FaceID. According to Gurman, the FaceID is still useful for camera features and AR.
120Hz display
Higher refresh rate will become a reality on the iPhone 13, thanks to the LTPO OLED display which will be supplied by Samsung.
Early rumors suggested that the iPhone 12 Pro models will come with 120Hz tech, but as we know that didn’t happen. Now, the 120Hz Pro Display rumors have come back again, this time for the iPhone 13. Weinbach and Ming Chi Kuo, both have confirmed that the iPhone 13 will add 120Hz support.
Apart from this, the iPhone 13 will certainly feature the standard chip upgrade, from A14 to A15. There are also rumors that the next iPhone lineup will support Wi-Fi 6E. One leak suggests that 2021 iPhones will feature up to 1TB of internal storage.
Always-on display
According to Weinbach, the iPhone 13 will also feature Always-on display thanks to the new LTPO panels.
While in AOD mode, it will “basically look like a toned down lock screen.” Weinbach says the notifications will arrive normally, however they will be dimmed down and the entire screen won’t light up.
If left alone, the notifications will be displayed using a bar and icons. Apart from that, the clock and battery appear to be always visible.
iPhone 13 price and lineup
Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed that the iPhone 13 lineup will remain the same as the iPhone 12 series. In other words, you can expect the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 mini, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
There are no rumors about the iPhone 13 price. However, people who closely follow Apple, suggest that the iPhone 13 pricing will be similar to that of the iPhone 12.
- iPhone 13 Mini Price — $699
