Apple Files Patent For A Device With 360-Degree Display
Cupertino tech major Apple has been the patent hoarder ever since. Now, adding to its long list of patent applications, the recent one gives us an inkling of a new display design 2019 (or the near future) might see.
According to a report by MySmartPrice, the new patent granted to Apple hints at a display which could be bent up to 360 degrees.
The display design, known as the continuously wrapped display can be compatible with various devices such as smartphones, tablets, or maybe an iPod.
While we have seen flexible displays from Samsung and Rouyu and other possibilities too, the one from Apple (if turns into a product) will form a continuous single screen, which can also have various uses to it.
The continuously wrapped display has an outer hollow protective cover which is likely to be made out of sapphire material with other recommended materials being a simple polymer film, traditional clear glass, transparent plastic, and clear ceramic.
The display will be glued to the protective cover using transparent adhesives for a seamless design. Additionally, it is not a mandate that the PCB be flexible too, given that the display will be in a cylindrical form.
However, the patent further reveals that the display could be a versatile one, convertible into a triangular structure, rectangular form, and a device structure with dual displays. Therefore, calling for a need for a flexible PCB.
Furthermore, the Apple patent envisages a lesser touch-based control system and a more advanced motion control system.
Just to clear the air, the aforementioned is just a patent and there is still no confirmation as to whether or not it will see the light of the day.
It would be interesting to see a whole new display design and how it works. What do you think of it? Write in your comments down below.
