Apple Fans Are Returning New 15-inch MacBook Pro Due To Heating Issues
The new 15-inch Mac Book Pro is well advertised as “the fastest and most powerful notebook we’ve ever made.” In fact, Mac users call it a beast among laptops.
The 2.2 GHz six-core Intel i7 processor makes it stand on the top. But what sets it aside from other manufacturers is its configuration options including Intel Core i9 with turbo boost up to 4.8 GHz.
To buy this slim beast, one would have to spend from $1300 to a maximum of $7000. And it seems like fans would wait for a little more since many users are reporting a throttle in speeds because of heat issues. Specifically, the problem is in the i9 models which users can get by paying $2,800.
While the issue is gradually moving upwards among the Reddit users, it was initially raised by a Youtuber David Lee who found out the overheating of his i9 model led to throttled speeds while rendering a video in Adobe Premiere.
According to Business Insider, some Mac users are returning, or at least, canceling their pre-orders after the news broke out. Redditor IDoHaveWorkToDo is one such user who has returned his Core i9 2019 MacBook Pro.
Lee compared the MacBook Pro performance with the Aero 15X which uses Intel i7. The Aero machine was able to clock up to 3.1 GHz with Turbo Boost.
Lee complained that his 15-inch MacBook Pro was not even able to maintain the base clock speed of 2.9 GHz, calling it “absurd.”
He even jokingly tried to cool the machine by putting it into the freezer and miraculously, Adobe Premiere rendering time was reduced to 27 minutes from initial 40 min.
Although, thermal throttling is very common among the PC users as Lee also mentions. But certainly, users don’t expect it from MacBook especially after paying hefty amounts for the so-called “beast”.
