My Android O Is Sucking Mobile Data Even When WiFi Is Connected – What To Do?
A Redditor, who goes by the username Unusual_sauce, highlighted an unusual issue after the Android O update. He realized that his smartphone was using mobile data despite being connected to a WiFi network.
“After updating to Oreo last night, I received a huge spike in data usage, all the while being connected to WiFi,” writes the Redditor, who owns a Pixel XL.
“I contacted support and was told that they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. In the meantime, I have turned off mobile data while at home, so only WiFi is being used.”
Some other users also witnessed the issue. A user also said the problem was present on Android Nougat.
Later, Unusual_Sauce contact Google, and he was informed that they’re aware of the issue and fix is on its way.
This could be a hard blow on the pockets of users who are running a limited data plan. A temporary remedy to this problem is to turn off the mobile data connection when you’re using WiFi. This would help you prevent getting excessive data bills before the fix is released.
Also, you can head over to Settings > Developer Options and turn off the option “Mobile data always active.” For some reason, the option is enabled by default with the Android O update.
