Tesla Video: This Is What A Tesla Cars Sees While Driving On Its Own
Short Bytes: A new video shared by Elon Musk demonstrates Tesla’s much awaited self-driving feature the company announced last month. It shows a Tesla car driving around a neighborhood on its own using a bunch of cameras and other sensors.
Last month, Elon Musk’s car company announced that they will be fitting hardware to enable self-driving functionality in all Tesla cars – Model S, Model X, and Model 3 – moving out of their production facility. This would allow the cars to be “safer than a human driver” and reduce transportation costs. The first look of Tesla’s self-driving system was revealed in the form of a video. Tesla has come up with a new video – promoted by Musk – depicting the driving experience according to the car’s perspective. The video has multiple feeds including left rear, medium range, and right rear cameras.
Tesla claims that a person is present on the driver’s seat only because the law makes it mandatory. In the video, a Tesla car is flaunting its self-driving skills in real traffic. It seamlessly detects various objects – indicated using different colors – on the road like vehicles, motion flow, road lanes, humans, road signs, lights, etc.
Tesla already implemented the Autopilot feature long ago. So, they have the experience and know-how of building a self-driving car. According to the company, Hardware-equipped Tesla models house 8 cameras which enable a 360-degree view up to 250 meters. The vision is further enhanced by 12 ultrasonic sensors. A forward-facing radar allows the car to drive in bad weather conditions.
Above all, an onboard computer having “40 times the computing power of the previous generation” does all the thinking part for the vision, sonar, and radar data collected by the vehicle.
