Google Is Making Sure No One Buys The New Pixel 4
Google just unveiled its new iteration of Pixel smartphones this year — the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL — and I am not that sure if I like the devices. As these smartphones are not coming to India, Google has made sure that we don’t even consider the new Pixel smartphones.
Pixel 4 Series Sans Unlimited Storage
Google’s smartphones have had three major perks: (a) Unlimited Google Photos storage, (b) Good cameras, and (c) Pure Android experience and faster software updates.
However, one of the perks has gone as the new Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL won’t support unlimited storage in Google Photos, that too in original quality.
While visiting the Google Store, if you scroll down to the end of the page, you will find a list of “asterisked” pointers. Point 5 confirms that the new smartphones will support unlimited storage in “high quality” and not in the original one.
The statement reads: “Google Photos offers free unlimited online storage for all photos and videos uploaded in high quality. Photos and videos uploaded in high quality may be compressed or resized.”
What Does It Mean?
Google’s drift from unlimited storage with the launch of its new Pixel 4 series implies it wants us to go for its subscription-based storage plans as part of its Google One initiative.
If you want to know exactly what Google One is, you can read our article on it for a better idea.
For this, Google is even providing three months of free access to Google One, following which users will have to start paying for it if they need it.
However, users might not consider buying because one of the perks of Google smartphones is fading away. Even the other two perks seem no big a deal given that other Android smartphones have begun getting new versions of Android that too quite soon after it gets launched. Plus, the iPhone cameras are really good.
Not All Is Unwell With The Pixel 4 Series!
Although the Pixel 4 series doesn’t support unlimited storage in the original quality and has no SD card (to add onto the cons), the smartphones do come with exciting features such as the Air Gestures, an in-built Recorder app for real-time transcriptions, 90Hz refresh rate, improved Face Unlock, Astrophotography, enhanced Google Assistant, and lots more.
If you are a Pixel fan and the storage issue ain’t a problem for you, you’ve got yourself several Google Pixel 4 features you need to buy.
