Satya Nadella Assures AI Won’t Take Our Jobs And “Dignity”
One of the biggest concerns of humans about AI is they might lose their jobs in the long run. Our lack of understanding about AI is probably the reason such concerns are raised more often.
With the continued development of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, it’s expected from tech leaders to talk about the good and evil sides of the technology that’s finding a home everywhere it can.
Some people, including Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, haven’t kept their lips tight. They even got engaged in comment wars. Adding to the list, Satya Nadella has also expressed his feelings about AI, again.
While speaking to The Sunday Telegraph in an interview, Microsoft CEO said even in a “runaway AI scenario” people won’t be jobless because of robots.
The reason why people need and want a job is that it gives them “dignity,” he said.
So, what can be done to rest our fear? He told the same thing he said earlier while comparing the world to a giant computer.
The focus should be on the ethics and the principles “that we can use for the engineers and companies that are building AI so that the choices we make don’t cause us to create systems with bias,” Nadella was quoted saying.
“That’s the tangible thing we should be working on.”
“Of course, we can’t expect perfection — there’s always going to be some bias undetected or that can’t be eliminated — the goal is to do as well as we can.”
Moving along similar lines, according to an MIT Technology Review report, Microsoft is creating a tool that can automatically identify bias in AI algorithms. It could help businesses use AI without inadvertently discriminating against certain people.
What we can understand from Nadella’s comment is to achieve a better future, we should build our technology in a way that it becomes a helping hand to humans, not a curse or burden.
