YouTube To Rival TikTok With Its New Feature Called “Shorts”
If there’s one platform that can take on TikTok, then its definitely YouTube; and that’s what is happening. Reportedly, YouTube is working on a feature called “Shorts,” which will allow users to record brief videos and upload them into their feed, very much like TikTok.
TikTok is one of those apps that took the world by storm and grabbed more than 500 million active users worldwide. However, it looks like YouTube wants to pull some of that userbase from TikTok. That is why the Silicon Valley giant is working on its own version of the Chinese-owned video-sharing app.
Users love TikTok because it allows them to create videos using various music and sound effects. However, According to The Information, Shorts will enable users to take advantage of YouTube’s licensed music.
YouTube’s music catalog has a variety of songs. So, users will be able to upload short videos inside the mobile app after integrating one of those soundtracks into their videos.
Even though millions of users love TikTok, the app is always under fire for one thing or another. For instance, TikTok was recently criticized for suppressing posts by “ugly, poor, and disabled” users. Also, Reddit CEO and co-founder, Steve Huffman, said that we should not install TikTok as it is a “fundamentally parasitic” app.
So, if YouTube “Shorts” feature comes out, then TikTok may see a considerable drop in their userbase.
There is no word yet on when the “Shorts” feature will be out for the YouTube mobile app. However, the report says that the feature will release by the end of this year.
