Volkswagen has released the first teaser for its upcoming Hyundai Creta Rival, the Taigun SUV.

The Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV will be showcased at Auto Expo 2020 later this week. The upcoming Volkswagen SUV in India will play the role of a rival for several cars in the Rs. 10 to 15 lakh price range.

The new model will be very similar to Volkswagen’s global model T-cross. Volkswagen Taigun will be underpinned by the MQB AO IN platform. The structure is optimized from their former platform MQB (Modular Transverse Matrix).

As per the sources, VW will invest 1 billion Euros in the Indian market. Volkswagen added that there will be a lineup of 4 more SUVs in the Auto Expo 2020 and they are optimistic to achieve a 3% market share.

As the company intends to eliminate all diesel engines from the market, the SUV will likely have a petrol version. According to some reports, it is expected that on the final launch, there might be a CNG as well.

Under the bonnet, there will likely be a 1.0 Liter Turbocharged TSI (Turbocharged Spark Ignition) petrol engine. The engine can create a whooping 113 bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm.

If we talk about transmission, then there will be a 6-speed manual transmission and possibly a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission (Direct Shift Gearbox).

According to Volkswagen, Taigun will have a longer wheelbase than its former global model T-cross, making it more spacious and more comfortable.

The upcoming SUV will sport LED headlights and a stylish single-bar LED-panel at the rear, which gives it a glamorous look.

The area where the VW Taigun can score a lead over Hyundai Creta is in design and styling. Tiguan combines elements of a traditional compact SUV like a high-up seating position and a swooped up rear which resembles a hatchback.

The price of the car will stay behind the curtains until its final reveal at the Auto Expo 2020. The VW Taigun will go up against similar SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Nexon, and MG Hector, there it will have an ex-showroom price between Rs. 10 to 15 lakh.

Volkswagen has always had superb build quality in its vehicles. The company’s current Indian SUV lineup includes Tiguan, a premium SUV with a price range starting at Rs 33 lakh (ex-showroom).

With the launch of VW Taigun, the company will finally launch an affordable SUV in India for the masses.
