Yusaku Maezawa most retweeted tweet

Yusaku Maezawa, the Japanese billionaire who has secured his ticket on Elon Musk’s space flight to the moon, is paying one million yen in cash to retweet his tweet.

The billionaire is paying the hefty amount to make his tweet the most retweeted tweet in the history of Twitter. Mr. Maezawa is the founder of Japanese online clothing retailer Zozotown and is the 18th richest person of Japan.

In his tweet on January 5, he announced that Zozotown has recorded unprecedented sales during Christmas and New Year and to celebrate it, he is organizing cash giveaway to those who’d retweet the message.

The tweet said that 100 people who have retweeted would be chosen randomly and he will personally contact the winners and distribute 100 million yen ($924,100) amongst them. 7th of January is the deadline set for the giveaway.

Mr. Maezawa said, “To participate, all you have to do is follow me and RT this tweet,”

Since its announcement, his tweet has been retweeted more than four million times.

With this, the tweet now holds the record for the most retweeted tweet defeating a Nevada teenager’s tweet where he urged users to retweet to get him a year’s free chicken nuggets from Wendy’s.

The third position is held by Ellen Degeneres’s iconic selfie with celebrities at 2014 Oscars with 3.31 million retweets.

Mr. Maezawa came to limelight after his name was announced as the first civilian passenger to fly to the moon under Elon Musk’s SpaceX project.
