The popular EV-maker, Tesla, could make its mark in another industry after automobiles. Reports suggest the Elon Musk-owned firm is gearing up to enter the audio product category.

According to Electrek, Tesla recently filed for the use of its trademark in a wide array of audio equipment. Companies normally do this before they start selling new products under their name.

The source further mentions that the Texas-based carmaker registered both “Tesla” and “T” logos for various new products, ranging from headphones to megaphones.

Here is an excerpt from the report: “TESLA™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of microphones; headphones; earphones; digital audio players; sound transmitting apparatus; audio speakers; subwoofers; earpads for headphones; audio interfaces; audio equalizer apparatus; horns for loudspeakers; megaphones.

Although this suggests Tesla could launch new products in any of these categories, you should take all early predictions at this point with a grain of salt. Sometimes, companies file trademark applications in anticipation of a future project and eventually scrap it. So there’s a chance Tesla might not even make full use of its application.

However, considering that Tesla has upped its audio game with the Model S and Model 3, it won’t be preposterous to say that the company might be working on a new car audio system.

And knowing Tesla CEO Musk’s penchant for the most bizarre and unexpected products, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if a pair of Tesla headphones are ultimately announced. After all, we’re talking about the same person who introduced products such as Tesla Tequila and Cyberwhistle to the world.

What do you think about Tesla’s plan with audio products? Would you buy new headphones backed by Elon Musk? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
