Widespread leaks have become an integral part of any high-profile tech launch these days–Samsung Galaxy S9 was no exception. As a result, there wasn’t much left to the imagination. The new Galaxy S9 and S9+ look a lot like their predecessors. This is not a bad thing as Galaxy S8 was one of the best smartphones released last year.

So, what sets Samsung’s latest offering apart? With these new devices launched at MWC 2018, the company claims to bring a new and improved camera setup. But before telling you about that, let me list all the basic specifications of the S9 and S9+ models —

  • Snapdragon 845 / Exynos 9810 processors
  • 4GB RAM
  • 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen
  • 64GB internal storage (expandable)
  • 3,000 mAh battery
  • IP68 water resistant
  • Stereo speakers
  • Bluetooth 5.0
  • AR Emoji

If you go for the costlier and more powerful Plus model, you’ll get 6GB RAM, bigger 6.2-inch screen, 3,500 mAh battery, and secondary telephoto camera.

Coming back to the camera, it’s the focus of this device. The 12MP camera sensor comes with a mechanically adjustable variable aperture setup — f/1.4 lens for 28 percent more light in dark conditions and f/2.4 lens for outdoor shooting. Right from the camera app, you can switch between the two apertures with ease.

The sensor comes with an improved autofocus technology for easier and reliable shooting. As per Samsung, the device captures 30% better low-light pictures with better multi-frame noise reduction. It’ll be interesting to see if the real-world performance will be able to beat Pixel 2’s camera.

Another highlight feature of S9’s camera is the Super Slow-Mo video. Compared to standard 240 FPS, S9 records at 960 FPS for 4-times slower videos.

Samsung has also introduced iPhone X-inspired AR Emoji. The working is as expected–the camera scans your face for creating a detailed map of your face and uses the same for creating the 3D character.

Talking about the price, Samsung Galaxy S9 will cost you $720, and S9+ will be available at $840. These phones will be available for pre-order in March and you can expect the shipping to take place from 16th.
