Snapdragon 700 SoC Launched To Bring Artificial Intelligence And Top Performance To Cheaper Phones
At MWC 2018, Qualcomm announced an all-new Snapdragon-branded SoC lineup called Snapdragon 700 to offer a balance between their mid-range Snapdragon 600 and the high-end Snapdragon 800 series.
The mobile platform, as Qualcomm like to call it, takes a middle road between price and performance. It combines the likes of the premium features available in the 800 series but keeps the price low enough to fit in the mid-range device segment, mostly, touching its roof.
Apart from the hardware upgrades over Snapdragon 600 series, Qualcomm says that Snapdragon 700 series provides up to 2x faster on-device AI processing with the help of their multi-core AI engine. So, the time has come when AI is making its way to non-flagship devices as well, enabling the devices to handle day-to-day machine learning tasks in a better way.
The enhanced feature set includes support for better camera features, up to 30% power efficiency, better performance and battery life, etc. All of this is in comparison to Snapdragon 660 which is the most powerful in the 600 series lineup. Still, it would be underpowered than the 800 series.
Snapdragon 700 also features Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 4+ fast charging technology that can juice up a 2750mAH battery of zero to 50% in just 15 minutes.
The actual details of any Snapdragon 700 series product are yet to be known. Qualcomm said the first sample of the platform would be available in the first half of 2018.
