Fully Legal Torrent Site Mininova Is Shutting Down On April 4

Short Bytes: One of the first names in the torrent world, Mininova, is shutting down its operations on April 4, 2017. Mininova has been in existence since 2005. Mininova now only hosts content distribution torrents. It became free of illegal torrents in 2009 after it was forced to remove all the copyright infringing torrent files.

Another name to add to the list of torrent websites shutting down one after the other is Mininova. It’s not a known name in 2017, but it’s one of the early breeds of torrent sites that became famous before many people were even aware of The Pirate Bay.

Mininova is now completely free of illegal torrents. But, in the past, Mininova was no different. It was a host of a plethora of pirated movies, TV shows, and other things till it got a legal slap from the Dutch courts.

A company Mininova B.V. maintains the popular torrent site, and in 2005, Mininova sprung out of another torrent website names Supernova. Supernova had to shut down in 2004 due to legal issues.

According to a message displayed on the website’s homepage, Mininova will go offline on April 4, 2017. All the torrents hosted on the site will not be seeded. It might be hard for the ‘legal’ torrent site to keep things running when the torrent ecosystem is losing its strength and popularity as various streaming websites spreading their legs on the internet.
