Learn Basics Of Game Development For Free At Xbox Academy

Created by Microsoft Store, Xbox Academy is an upcoming online digital workshop that aims at teaching the fundamentals of game designing and development.

Microsoft announced the dates for the workshop; however, there are limited spots. Microsoft plans on running four ninety-minute sessions between the 12th and 13th of September. Also, to register for the workshop, all participants must be over 16 years old.

Xbox will present the workshop in partnership with Playground Games, the developers of the famous ‘Forza’ racing series, along with Games London and East London Arts and Music (ELAM).

Interestingly, the Xbox Academy workshop will give the participants a chance to learn more about game development from the industry professionals.

I’m thrilled that the Playground is part of Xbox Academy and that our team members Maria Lee and Ryan Greene can share their experience and knowledge,” said Gavin Raeburn, the Studio Director of Playground Games.

Raeburn further went on to say that many students at ELAM have started game development after taking the inspiration from the game creators at the Playground Games.

More About the Xbox Academy Workshop

Once participants are successful in reserving a spot for themselves at the workshop, then they will have to install Unity 2020. After that, participants have to download the resource file 3D Game Kit and test it before the online session. Doing that will help them to keep up with the pace of the presenter.

Everything a participant learns in the Xbox Academy workshop will also apply to game development platforms other than Unity 2020. For instance, participants can use the same knowledge to create something on Unreal Engine 4, which is entirely free to use.

Nowadays, there are several online resources to learn about game development, such as free game engines, and video tutorials on YouTube. Now, the Xbox Academy program will also act as a similar learning platform/tool for thousands of new game developers.

So, if you’re a young talent who wants to polish their skills in game development, then you really shouldn’t miss this golden opportunity.
