The new MCU film will debut a staggering collection of 10 new heroes. These are immortal beings with Superhuman powers that have lived on Earth for thousands of years. They were sent by the Celestials to battle the Evil Deviants.

The Eternals will have to reunite to face the deviants and fulfill their duty in this upcoming blockbuster. The movie will also have an absolutely star-studded cast. Some of them are Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, and many more.

There are many interesting references and expansions to the lore that have come out from this movie’s promotion. But one of the more talked about references is where the namedrop of the Man of Steel comes out of nowhere.

It’s a scene where Phastos’ son mistakes Ikaris, played by Richard Madden, to be the DC superhero. Considering how Ikaris can fly and shoot lasers from his eyes, we can see where the confusion is coming from. In a recent Kevin McCarthy Interview, the director Zhao talks about the reference.

Zhao explains that the mythology of the Man of Steel is being honored which fits the theme of the movie. She also says that Phastos’ son may have read Superman somewhere. She continues about how Gilgamesh, one of the characters of the film, is also a fan of the Batman films. This confirms at least that the DC heroes exist in the MCU though only fictionally.

All in all, it is certainly an interesting reference to add which serves to amplify the overall grand feeling the film exudes. That’s all about Eternals’ Superman reference. Eternals hits theatres on November 5, 2021. Until then you can enjoy other popular Marvel titles like Loki and Black Widow.
