Android 14 DP2 Released: Here’s What’s New
The second developer preview of Android 14 is finally here as per Google’s Android 14 development timeline and schedule. The update is now live for Pixel and brings lots of new changes to the table. In this article, let’s look at everything that’s new in Android 14 DP2. The update brings a lot of internal and UI changes, and here’s a list of all of them.
Android 14 DP2: What’s New?
The update ships with the March security patch and is available for every Pixel device, starting from the Pixel 4a 5G, all the way to the latest Pixel 7. Plus, it’s a refresher on what the first Developer Preview looks like and what has changed.
- Predictive Back Gestures have been implemented. As of now, only system apps support it.
- Added the ability to now allow access to all photos or select photos from the media picker.
- New Credential Manager makes sign-in easier by supporting credential providers. It also allows you to sign in using passkeys for passwordless sign-in.
- Slight changes to media player UI and animations.
- Battery and background app optimizations.
- Third-party app stores can now use new APIs such as requestUserPreapproval(), serRequestUpdateOwnership(), and setDontKillApp() to improve the user experience.
- Users can now personalize system-wide temperature units and the first day of the week. All of this is packed into the Regional preferences screen that can be found in settings.
