While the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro 2 have been in rumors for a while, there’s nothing solid on the release dates yet. However, a leaker that goes by @FronTron on Twitter has tweeted about the latest AirPods release date.
According to Tron, the AirPods 3 release date will be in the third quarter of 2021. This could mean a launch as early as July, or as late as the annual Apple event in September.
The second-gen AirPods Pro is tipped to be pushed to at least the second quarter of 2022. If leaks are to be believed, we may get a design change and some other new bells and whistles in the upcoming AirPods.
Upcoming AirPods And AirPods Pro: Maybe A Little More?
We’ve done a thorough rumor roundup for the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2. Previous leaks have suggested a new design for the AirPods 3. They’re expected to be similar to the AirPods Pro design, with a shorter stem. However, the AirPods are also likely to miss out on the silicon tips that we get with the Pro variant.
Talking about the upcoming AirPods Pro 2, or the second-gen AirPods Pro, Apple is likely to ditch the stem in favor of an ear bud-like design. This could translate to a sleeker carrying case and more ways to secure the buds in your ears.
I asked Tron about anything else that may be unique about the AirPods. Tron’s response resonates with a story from Vice, saying that the plasticky AirPods are a tragedy for the environment.
Since Apple is in full force towards going green, we can expect an aluminum casing or some eco-friendly twist for the next-gen AirPods.
Next up, the new AirPods will probably get a new chip from Apple. We expect this chip to support Apple Lossless Music. If that happens, all you’ll need to enjoy hi-fidelity music is a pair of AirPods and an Apple Music subscription.
While that is everything we know about the upcoming AirPods, there’s no solid release date for the AirPods 3 and AirPods 2 Pro. Let us know in the comments what you expect from the next-gen AirPods.
