“Upload A Selfie” — Facebook May Soon Ask For Your Picture To Confirm You’re Not A Robot
As per a screenshot shared on Twitter, this new selfie upload prompt says — “Please upload a photo of yourself that clearly shows your face.” The prompt also promises to check the picture and permanently erase it from the servers. In a somewhat similar story, Facebook had already suggested asked users to upload their nude photos to fight revenge porn.
Confirming the same, in a statement to Wired, Facebook said that this photo test is intended to catch suspicious activity on the website. The company adds that it’ll help them identify unintended actions while creating an account, sending Friend requests, creating/editing ads, and setting up payment for ads.

While it’s not clear when the company started testing this new captcha, the similar incidents were reported on Reddit as well earlier this year.

This process of asking for your selfie is automated. For determining if your account is authentic, Facebook will check if the photo is unique.
Another screenshot spotted on Twitter suggests that one is locked out of the account while the photograph is verified. People see a message that says — “You Can’t Log In Right Now. We’ll get in touch with you after we’ve reviewed your photo.”
This news is surely enough to creep out many people who don’t wish to upload or share their pictures on any kind of electronic media or website. However, it’s worth noting that if you’re on Facebook, you’ve already agreed to share a considerable chunk of private information.
