Reliance Jio Data Hack Of 120 Million Users Could Be The Biggest Data Leak In India
Short Bytes: The customer data of about 120 million users might have been leaked in what could be the biggest-ever data breach in India. As per the media reports, the allegedly leaked data was posted on a website which provided an interface to enter the mobile number and get the relevant personal details. While the website in question is showing “Account Suspended” message, Reliance Jio has denied the possibility of any breach or hack.
According to various media reports, a website named MagicAPK.com uploaded the personal data of millions of Reliance Jio users on Sunday evening. The website started trending on various social media platforms and forums like Reddit. Later, the website crashed due to excessive traffic. The website provided a simple user interface with a search box to enter Jio mobile number. After doing so, the interface showed the Jio SIM details of the users. The authenticity of the data was confirmed by multiple users and website ForeArena.
“To my disbelief, I found my own details in the database and also a couple of my colleagues are affected too,” Varun Krish wrote for FoneArena.
If this Reliance Jio data hack turns out to be real, it could be the biggest data breach in India as it affects more than 120 million Reliance Jio users.
The leaked details include the complete name, email ID, mobile number, circle ID, SIM activation date and time, and Aadhar details.
In response to the Reliance Jio data hack, the company has said that the data leak is inauthentic, which sounds like a typical corporate response. “We have come across the unverified and unsubstantiated claims of the website and are investigating it. Prima facie, the data appears to be unauthentic. We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with the highest security,” according to Reliance Jio.
Reliance has also said it has informed the law enforcement agencies and strict actions will be taken.
Currently, the website MagicAPK is showing “Account Suspended” message.
