OPPO’s Find X9 series is just around the corner, with the launch set for November 18. Before that, though, the company has just announced the LUMO Image Engine. The system, which initially debuted on the Find X8 Ultra, will be making its way to all Find X9 series phones and promises to significantly improve images and their perceived quality.

The LUMO image engine is OPPO’s technology, which, instead of relying on AI beautification or excessive post-processing tricks, focuses on replicating real-world light, color, and depth. The goal is to mimic the way our eyes perceive photos, just as we do when looking at a person.

How Does the LUMO Image Engine Work?

To achieve that look and feel, OPPO uses three different systems, namely the Ultra-sensing Computational Optical System, a Digital Imaging Engine, along with a ProXDR System. The Optical System covers focal lengths from 15mm to 135mm, allowing the camera to capture clear and consistent-looking photos in a range of settings, from ultra-wide landscapes to close-up portraits. There’s a special type of glass that filters infrared light and boosts overall light transmission, as well.

After the light enters the camera, the color engine ensures the photos reflect true-to-life colours without oversaturation, while the depth system highlights the separation between the subject and background. Beyond that, the lighting system balances contrast, highlights, and shadows for natural lighting.

In terms of hardware, the OPPO Find X9 Pro is set to feature a triple camera setup, comprising a 50MP primary sensor, coupled with another 50MP UltraWide, and a 200MP 70mm periscope lens. We are set to get our hands on the new X9 series, so stay tuned for our review dropping on November 18, to check what difference the LUMO engine makes.
