Amazon Shows Creepy Mind Reading Alexa With Scarlett Johansson
Amazon released an ad for Alexa featuring real-life couple Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost. The ad was meant as a comedy sketch but hit too close to home. The AI assistant could read the users’ minds to automate purchases and smart home functions in the commercial.
This might sound like a good feature that can turn ugly real soon. Thankfully, the writers were self-aware and showed exactly what would happen with a creepy mind-reading AI assistant. The worst thing is that the punchline is delivered through Alexa herself.

The ad was made as a SuperBowl commercial asking what it would be like if Alexa could read our minds. This soon turned out to be a nightmare for the couple as all their thoughts were on display through Alexa, no less.
The video wastes no time showing how bad an idea it would be by creating hilarious marital strife situations. One sketch shows Alexa ordering mint mouthwash (extra strength) when Jost realizes his wife, Scarlett Johansson, has a terrible morning breath.
Another sketch showed Jost asking Johansson whether kissing handsome people on set is wonderful or the worst. Johansson says it’s the worst, but Alexa starts playing “Tell Me Lies, Tell Me Sweet Little Lies” by Fleetwood Mac.
In the end, it’s all just a joke, as Jost mentions, “It’s probably better if Alexa can’t read your mind.”
