People Are Buying More PCs As WFH Becomes The New Normal
Not just our health, the Coronavirus pandemic has crippled our economic backbone too. The initial effects were observed earlier this year as the global PC shipments declined drastically in Q1 2020.
However, as we are trying to get back on track, finding new ways to work from home efficiently, the PC market has started to rise again amid the ongoing economic slowdown.
According to the latest numbers published by Gartner, the worldwide PC sales increased by 2.8% (year-over-year) in Q2 2020. A total of 64.8 million units were sold, including laptops, deskops, and workstations.
Another report from IDC suggests that around 72.3 million units were sold in Q2 2020, thereby, recording an 11.2% growth (year-over-year).
In previous months, nationwide COVID-19 lockdowns in various parts of the world disrupted supply chains and contributed to the declined sales.
However, the gist of these reports is that the PC market is reviving itself after taking a major blow. It goes without saying that the sales are increasing as more people are turning to full-time work from home schedules.
Not just professionals, schools and other academic institutions have replaced traditional teaching methods with online education through video conferencing apps and e-learning platforms.
“What remains to be seen is if this demand and high level of usage continues during a recession and into the post-COVID world since budgets are shrinking while schools and workplaces reopen,” said IDC research manager Jitesh Ubrani.
