Windows 10 May 2020 Patch Tuesday Update Now Live
Following the monthly ritual, Microsoft has released the Patch Tuesday update for the month of May. The cumulative update comes with a host of security fixes and performance-related improvements for all support versions, including Windows 10 1909, 1903, 1809, etc.
The Patch Tuesday changelog for the two most recent versions 1909 and 1903 is the same, known as KB4556799. That’s because both versions share an identical set of system files.
As part of KB4556799, Microsoft has included updates to improve security when using Microsoft Edge/IE, when Windows performs basic operations, verifying user credentials, storing and managing files, using input devices, and so on.
Furthermore, it has fixed several non-critical vulnerabilities. The list includes a remote code execution bug in MS Excel when it fails to handle objects in the memory, and an information disclosure vulnerability in Windows Subsystem for Linux. If exploited successfully, the WSL bug could have allowed an attacker to obtain information and further compromise a system.
With May Patch Tuesday, Microsoft has also updated the 2020 start date of the Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the Kingdom of Morocco.
The cumulative update is available as Build 18362.836 for version 1903 and 18363.836 for version 1909. As always, you don’t need to do anything, and the update will land on your machine automatically.
However, if you don’t want it right now, you have the option to pause Windows Updates. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Click on Pause updates for 7 days.
