Watch A Tesla Model X P100D Drag Race Against Small Sports Car

I became a fan of drag races ever since Tesla arrived on the scene; even the bulkiest Tesla electric car the Model X P100D can easily leave small sports cars in the dust.

To demonstrate just how quickly the Tesla Model X P100D is against cars much smaller than its size, Matt Watson from carwow UK conducted a quarter-mile drag race between them.

The Tesla Model X P100D participated in the drag race against a bunch of high-performance small sports cars including the BMW M8 Competition, Mercedes AMG GT 635, Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and Audi R8 Performance.

All these cars are either a two-seater sports car or a four-seater sedan but the Tesla Model X is a 7-seater 2.5 ton SUV, basically a family car that even my mom can drive.

So how does a bulky electric SUV like the Tesla Model X P100D fares against the might of small sports car in a quarter-mile drag race? Here’s the video for your answer.

There are potential spoilers for the drag race so I’d suggest that you see the video first.

As we can see this race isn’t fair competition by any measure. The Audi R8 Performance is one of the fastest and lightest here. It is powered by a 5.2L V10 which produces 620HP and 580NM of torque, in addition to having 1,595kg of curb weight and a selling price of £141,265.

The 7-seater Tesla Model X P100D produces 795HP, 1,40NM of torque and weighs 2,467kg. Its cost in the UK is £125,000. The “D” stands for “dual-motor” setup while the “P” stands for “Performance.” It is the top-spec Model X capable of 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds.

The Mercedes AMG GT 635 and BMW M8 competition were quite similar in terms of specs with the former producing 639HP while the latter produces 625HP. Out of these, the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S made the least amount of power at 450HP using a 3.0L twin-turbo flat-6 engine.

So the first race began and the Tesla Model X easily dominated the competition. However, it was beaten in later rounds when the Audi warmed up its tires. The official standing of the drag race was as follows:

Audi R8 V10 Performance at 10.7 seconds, followed by BMW M8 Competition 11.0 seconds, which was followed by Tesla Model X P100D at 11.1 seconds. The Mercedes AMG came in second last at 11.2 seconds while the Porsche finished the last in 11.4 seconds.

Then was the time for a rolling race and the BMW M8 Competition dominated it. Lastly, the braking test was won by the Mercedes AMG.

However, Matt himself argued that technically Model X P100D won the rolling race depending upon the real-world driving speed.

The Tesla Model X Is Versatile And Getting Better

From winning drag races to pulling a 4,400-pound trailer up trucking routes, the Model X can do it all.

On top of it all, it is a comfortable electric SUV that can carry 7-people for hundreds of miles.

The Tesla Model X is the only remaining car in Tesla’s stable which hasn’t received a major update for quite some time now. Both Model 3 with its leaked 100 kWh version and the upcoming Model S Plaid mode point towards an imminent update for the Tesla Model X as well.
