Latest Windows 10 Update Is Breaking Network Drivers For Some Users

Microsoft’s Windows Update problems don’t seem to end soon. The company is releasing cumulative updates to fix one thing, which in turn breaks something else on users’ machines.

On September 10, Microsoft released an update to fix the high CPU usage and SearchUI.exe issues for Windows 10. But the update broke the audio for some users among various things. Some users also reported seeing weird orange-tinted screenshots after installing the update.

Now, as spotted by Windows Latest, the update KB4515384 which was meant to fix those issues, is now breaking the network drivers on some machines. The bug disrupts Ethernet or Wi-Fi on Intel and Broadcom modems.

The affected users include those running Intel chipsets on ASUS, MSI, and Gigabit modems.

Microsoft has acknowledged the issue in a support document but said that it’s only limited to NEC devices. It has “found incompatibility issues with Intel Centrino 6205/6235 and Broadcom 802.11ac Wi-Fi cards when running Windows 10, version 1903 on specific models of NEC devices,” the company says.

The company will try to come up with a possible fix which, hopefully, won’t break anything else. Until then, it has suggested a workaround, and you can disable and re-enable the Wi-Fi adapter on your machine by going to the Device Manager.

In recent months, Windows Updates have had more than usual numbers of problems, which is painful for the users in some or the other way.

Microsoft is already in the process of making some big changes to the Windows Update process and, eventually, it’ll tackle some issues in the longer run. But right now, these buggy updates seem more like internal test builds released to keep up with the schedule rather than the stable ones.
