YouTube Works 5 Times Slower On Firefox And Edge, Claims Mozilla Executive

After the EU’s massive $5 billion fine on Google for creating dominance in Android smartphones, many people realized that Google is not the utopian company they thought it was. In fact, it uses the same petty tactics as any other big firm.

In a recent Twitter threat, Mozilla Technical Program Manager accused Google of forcing Youtube to work five times slower on other browsers including Firefox and Edge.

Chris Peterson goes on saying “YouTube’s Polymer redesign relies on the deprecated Shadow DOM v0 API only implemented in Chrome.”

Not just that, Google also tries to pitch in consumers on other browsers by showcasing Google Chrome ads on Youtube. Google has the option to update Youtube to Polymer 2.0 or 3.0 which support the deprecated API but chooses to stick with Polymer 1.0.

Thankfully, Peterson has suggested few ways for Mozilla users to tackle the slow loading issues with Youtube. You can revert Youtube to an older version by a Mozilla extension. But simultaneously, you would lose the dark theme support and latest updates from Google.

For Edge, you can install the Tampermonkey extension and use this script to restore classic YouTube.

This new revelation comes after another Google search engine competitor Google’s cheap tactics of making users go to Google.com while typing Duck.com on the search bar (Interestingly, Google owns Duck.com domain).
