Apple Warns Users Against Unauthorised iOS Modification aka “Jailbreaking”
Apple has published an article on their official blog highlighting the negative effects of unauthorized modification of iOS. which is commonly known as jailbreaking.
Jailbreaking is a technique through which restrictions imposed by Apple or the bundled carrier on an Apple device can be removed. By ‘modding’ the iOS, you can download applications from third-party websites and stores, customize the interface of the device, etc.
In the article, Apple mentioned that iOS is a secure operating system with many inbuilt security features to protect users against malware and viruses.
The post also added, “Unauthorized modifications to iOS (also known as “jailbreaking”) bypass security features and can cause numerous issues to the hacked iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.”
According to Apple, jailbreaking can lead to following mentioned issues:
- Security vulnerabilities
- Instability
- Shortened battery life
- Unreliable voice and data
- Disruption of services
- Inability to apply future software updates
However, the post failed to mention the fact that jailbroken phones can be brought back to the stock state by a simple software restore.
Warning users who intend to jailbreak their device, Apple added that installing any hacking software is a violation of iOS end-user software license agreement and could lead to denial of service by Apple.
The Cupertino giant has struggled for making their devices safe as various news of hacking iPhones and iPads keep making several rounds from time-to-time. However, with iOS 12, Apple is focusing on improving customer experience by adding additional security features.
