Singer Akon Unveils His Cryptocurrency “AKoin”; Wants To Develop “Real-life Wakanda”
The popular American singer, who made rounds with his famous song “Smack That,” is in the news; it’s not for the release of some new music but for a cryptocurrency. Yes, Akon has announced a new crypto coin called ‘AKoin,’ reports Page Six.
The cryptocurrency has been launched at Cannes Lions. It’ll be up for sale globally in the coming weeks, but the goal is to use the technology for the betterment of Africa. The R&B singer already has an ongoing project called Akon Lighting Africa, which provides solar power solution in 18 countries across the continent.
AKoin would be the currency of the under-development city called Akon Crypto City, or, as its website calls it, “real-life Wakanda.”
The first of its kind, the 100% crypto-based futuristic city will be built on the 2,000-acre land gifted to the singer by the President of Senegal, his homeland.
“I think that blockchain and crypto could be the savior for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people,” Akon said.
Some technical questions were also thrown at the star to which he replied, “I come with the concepts let the geeks figure it out.”
Apart from this, the Grammy-nominated star is also exploring a career in politics. For the 2020 presidential elections, he is ready to take on both Donald Trump and Kanye West. He already has a debate planned and said it’s going to be “entertaining” and “something worth watching.”
