Short Bytes: Pornhub, a talked about name in the adult entertainment industry has rolled HTTPS encryption across the whole website. This is soon to be replicated by its sister website on April 4. The announcement was made by MindGeek which is the parent of the two pornography websites.

More than half of the internet has implemented the HTTPS protocol (HTTP Secure). You can see the green padlock when you visit Fossbytes–we enabled HTTPS encryption last year in November. Google has been promoting HTTPS since last year. So, how can the pornography industry lag behind?

MindGeek, the parent company to the popular adult entertainment websites PornHub and YouPorn, has announced that they’ll be implemented HTTPS encryption for their websites, starting April 4.

The HTTPS protocol is known to be an effective countermeasure in the case of eavesdropping, MITM attacks, etc. The two adult entertainment websites will implement HTTPS by default which is implemented as per the HSTS policy. It mandates HTTPS connections to websites rather than leaving them optional.

As of writing this, PornHub has already implemented the HTTPS protocol (yes, we did check the website). And this is not surprising, in fact, necessary, for the website with a global Alexa Rank of 45 to have HTTPS security. It has more than 70 million visitors per day. Similar is the case of YouPorn which falls under the 300 Alexa Rank club and server around 1 billion video views per month.

Pornhub hasn’t confined itself to streaming pornographic content. They launched their own bug bounty program.
