If you are on social media, recently you must have seen a bunch of jokes and memes about “Area 51” or Aliens. For those who haven’t been able to figure out yet what all this fuss is about, allow me to explain.

So it started as a joke when someone created a Facebook event, titled “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us.” The aim of the event was to storm Nevada’s infamous Area 51 on September 20.

While the idea in itself is weird, you can always count on netizens to support crazy ideas. The event went viral and so far 625,000 Facebook users (at the time of writing) have RSVP’d “Yes” to the event. Another 590,000 users were “Interested” in the storming Area 51.

What is Area 51?

There is a conspiracy theory that Area 51, an Air Force base about 150 miles from Las Vegas, is a secret government facility where the remains of crashed UFO spacecrafts are stored.

People also believe that government scientists have been stationed there to reverse-engineer the aliens’ highly advanced technology. Some even believe that there are aliens locked up in that place.

Storm Area 51 goes viral!

After the Facebook event went viral, the internet responded in its best, and maybe a little bit weird, way. Thousands of people are now ready to raid Area 51 and “see them aliens.”

The event description says:

“We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets see them aliens.”

For non-anime fans, Naruto run is an anime-inspired running style where one runs with their arms back and their heads forward. Something like this:

While the event is fake, the response of the netizens is real and so are the Area 51 memes, created as a result. The absurdity of the event drew a lot of hilarious responses from folks on Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit.
