India Announces Dedicated Centres For Promoting Artificial Intelligence
With a focus on AI in India, the Indian Finance Minister, Piyush Goyal has announced National Artificial Intelligence Portal in India, while presenting the Union Budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
The Finance Minister has suggested that a total of nine priority areas have been decided to focus on the AI sector in the country. The National AI Portal will soon launch in the country and a separate budget will be allotted to the sector.
“Artificial Intelligence and related technology is a national program now,” said Piyush Goyal.
To recall, former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, while presenting his budget speech last year, had suggested that Niti Aayog must introduce a national AI program in the country.
Artificial Intelligence in India has seen significant growth with more and more initiatives being taken to promote AI-based skills in Indian youth. The Indian Government has big plans for the enhancement of the AI sector and other new and emerging technologies in the country.
Recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India has decided that it will add Artificial Intelligence as an optional subject for 8th, 9th, and 10th grades, starting the next academic session. AI will be included as a vocational subject and will allow students to know more about the tech.
