Microsoft & Zero Latency Team Up For Next-Gen Free Roam VR Platform
While VR headset companies such as Oculus focus on delivering virtual reality experience at home, Zero Latency specializes in free-roaming virtual reality systems.
It is basically a physical VR gaming zone where players can roam freely without being constrained by cables. Along with that, users are given VR headsets, backpacks, stereo headphones and microphones, and simulated weapons.
Now, the Zero Latency has announced a collaboration with Microsoft, HP, and Intel, to help create the next generation of its VR entertainment platform.
Under the new arrangement, all three major tech giants will provide new technology and hardware. Above all, the tech giants will help Zero Latency in achieving a massive global reach.
Yancey Smith, Senior Director of Mixed Reality Commercial Solutions at Microsoft said: “We look forward to working with them to reach customers with experiences based on Mixed Reality headsets and our cloud-based services, and working with them to expand to new markets.”
While Zero Latency has not confirmed any hardware changes for the VR arena experience, HP involvement suggests that its latest Windows MR headsets could be part of the deal. As for Intel, the NUC 8 VR machine stacking latest generation i7 processors will supposedly be part of the tech too.
Since the first VR facility which opened up in Australia back in 2015, Zero Latency has come a long way with over 21 centers around the world. The new deal with the major tech players would definitely provide a boost to free-roaming virtual reality systems market.
