Apple Might Combine Video And Music Streaming Service With News
Apple is reportedly working on a subscription-based video streaming platform to compete with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Videos. Last week, we also reported that Apple’s streaming service could be cheaper than Netflix.
A report from The Information suggests that Apple is planning to introduce a bundled streaming service combining TV, News, and Music services. The service would run along the lines of Amazon Prime which offers video content, music and news under a single subscription service.
According to two internal sources from Apple, the Cupertino based tech firm is planning to roll out the standalone service in two different stages. The initial step would include the rollout of a digital news subscription service.
This service would bring together Apple News and Texture, a digital magazine subscription service which Apple acquired in March this year. Texture offers access to more than 200 magazines including Vanity Fair and The New Yorker.
The next step would be collating the digital news subscription service with video content and Apple Music. Apple is also working on creating original TV series and movies, and with the recent agreement with the famous TV host Oprah Winfrey, the plans are expected to be launched on a massive scale.
Apple Music has also garnered a decent revenue for the company with 40 million paid subscribers since 2015. It is also possible that users could sign up for different services separately.
With this bundling of services, Apple is eyeing to double up the Apple Music subscribers and the number is expected to reach around 100 Million in next three years. However, clouds of uncertainty lie over Apple’s latest plans like price, which could be a major factor in deciding the success of the bundled subscription service.
As for content, Apple Music has enough content to make users sign up for a subscription service. The company has hired two high profile names from Sony Pictures for developing original video content, and Apple News is already a hit in some countries.
