A truck transporting Xioami smartphones has been robbed in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The vehicle was on its way to Kolkata from Sri City when the incident happened.

Nearly four miscreants attacked the truck driver when he stopped at a lay-by bay. They thrashed the driver, tied him to a nearby tree and then drove the truck away which contained more than 1,000 Mi smartphones.

Xiaomi has suffered a heavy loss due to this incident. Each of the stolen Xiaomi smartphone’s price ranged between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 14,000. According to a report by Times of India, the devices were worth around Rs 1 crore.

On reaching Gowravaram village, the notorious elements transferred all the smartphones to another unidentified truck and escaped. The empty truck was later found at the village.

When the villagers found the driver tied, they rescued him and called the police. A robbery case was registered, and the police launched an investigation.

After an initial investigation, the police said that the robbery was pre-planned and probably a company ‘insider’ had a hand in it.

Phone theft is one of the prevalent crimes across the world, be it pickpocketing or raiding retail stores. However, looting trucks is a new thing which has been observed just recently.
